If the no hold barred slinging match between two former Chief Ministers of Manipur is any sign of parties gearing up for the forthcoming Assembly polls than this time the state may witness one of the dirtiest election campaigns in the state. BJP leader and former Chief Minister RK Dorendro fired the salvo against veteran Congress leader Rishang Keishing, saying making Rishang the Chief Minister would be as good as making Th Muivah, the NSCN (IM) leader, the Chief Minister.
Rishang reacted promptly accusing Dorendro of triggering the Kuki-Naga ethnic and Meitei-Pangal communal flare up while the latter was the Chief Minister. The two are listed among the most seasoned and veteran political figures of Manipur amongst the contenders for the post of the Chief Ministership. One does not expect that such political figures would indulge in such outrageous mud-slinging match at a time when Manipur is preparing to elect a new Ministry. One shudders to think what will become of the younger politicians and followers of these figures if they continue to behave in this manner.
Given the experience they have gained as Chief Minister of Manipur and leaders of their own respective parties, one expects that they would set examples by concentrating on healthy and constructive criticisms. It should be reminded to both the leaders that the voters of Manipur are not fools who need to be reminded what both the leaders had or had not done during their regime or for that matter during their political careers. At best they could concentrate on issues confronting the State right now so that ways could be hammered to ameliorate conditions of the poor and common people. Such brand of politicking and campaigning is not going to bring any good to the State. Neither will it do any good to stead this will bring to the fore their weakness.
Not only did our elated leaders waste away money, precious years have been lost, thanks to the putrid political system. It is not the time to waste more energy, time and money by indulging in hatred campaigns and character assassination. If they think themselves fit to be called leaders and to head the governments, pleas prove them by deeds, not by dirty words. Please tell us what are the policies and programs they will implement when they become the Chief Minister to bring Manipur back from the brink.
Forget about the rest of the world; look around the other States of India. They all are striving hard to move ahead. The seventh Manipur Assembly has been wasted. What have our leaders done for the State and people? The economy is on the verge of a complete ruin. As a result of faulty and lopsided policies, apart from a corrupt administration and bureaucracy unrest amongst the growing youths are on the rise. Discontentment and public anger have reach point. Please note this.
