Nagaland Home Minister's Statement Should Be Condemned

Just as Bishnupriyas created controversies for Manipuris by using Manipuri as a tag in identification of their community; there are people outside the state of Manipur who always find delight in making controversial statement. And these people make Manipur and its community the butt of their topic. What they do not know is that they are hurting the sentiment of the people by their irresponsible statement.

The statement made by the Nagaland Home Minister regarding Manipur's territorial integrity issue is really unfortunate. The statement, which was made in open support of the merger move of a few portion of Manipur into the Nagaland, reflects the evil design brewing in the minds of the so called protagonists of merger of Naga inhabited areas with Nagaland. They are out to create havoc to the unity and integrity of the people the state. They are trying to put a wedge between Meiteis and Nagas, which should be pulled out at any cost. These leaders do not know how sensitive the territorial integrity is to the people of the state.

The manner with which Manipur was merged into the Union of India was different from Nagaland becoming a full-fledged state from a mere district of Assam. Manipur was a princely state before its merger into the Union of India and the King protected the boundary, therefore the Govt. of India has no right to divide the state on communal line even if some demand for the same.

The Govt. of Manipur should condemn the Nagaland Home Minister's statement) which supported the merger of some portion of Manipur with Nagaland, in the strongest term. Its Home Minister hurting the sentiments of millions of people of the state is really unfortunate. Our Govt. should lodge a formal complaint with the Nagaland Govt. for the irresponsible statement made by their Home Minister.

18 persons reached the altar of martyrdom in the fight against the extension of the cease-fire signed between the Govt. of India and the NSCN. If any attempt is made to divide the state what the Govt. of India will get is only the blood that flow like stream. Manipur will burn and the fire will escalate.

Nagaland having failed to emulate Manipur in any given field is dreaming of dividing by using some elements, who have not contributed anything to the betterment of the state. The wild dream will backfire. Because no Manipuri will rest to get back the lost status and prestige.

Manipuris is not in competition with its neighbors. It is looking higher. But the hope that is flying has been dragged down by these elements with devilish motive. A simple question, what right do they have to talk about the territorial integrity of the state. A befitting reply should be given to the Nagaland Govt. to enable them to realize how Manipuris look to the issue.
