Defection Will Continue
The question of MSCP quitting the SPF now does not arise at all. The party with no MLAs has nothing to do in the front, which was formed based on the MLAs of the units of the front. MSCP should have quit the moment five of its MLAs were swallowed up by the Congress party. It has now lost all its MLAs, the rest two having been suspended from the membership party for their anti party activities.

Similarly NCP and Samata party also lost all their MLAs.

It is really unfortunate that defection has become a normal feature in Manipur. Anti-defection laws have not been able to tackle defection by MLAs at least in Manipur where MLAs make themselves too cheap and allow to be bought by the ruling parties.

MNC however is wonderful. It stands alone. Man like Natum elected from Sagolband assembly constituency is the need of the hour. He is keeping his party alive by sticking to his party. Likewise MPP led by O Joy and Dr. Nimaichand Luwang is also alive for the two leaders decided to play the role of an effective opposition.

Yet still Manipur politics is unpredictable. RB Koijam was CLP leader and he took away all the Congress MLAs except Rishang Keishing and joined Samata Party. That sounded the death knell for RB and his team. President's Rule was imposed and he lost in the subsequent election. After the eighth assembly elections those in Samata Party, NCP and MSCP changed their parties like changing coats.

Will the voters be able to teach them a lesson in future for defying the verdict of the people? They thought that they could carry the voters according to their whims. They must be told they are wrong. Our political system is responsible for providing all these ills in the society.

What will MSCP, NCP and Samata parties do now? Bitten severely by their own MLAs they are living fumbled not knowing what to do. Will introduction of party less democracy in Manipur check massive defection by the MLAs? Pending amendment of the 10th schedule of the constitution of India to check defection by the elected representatives the law makers for that matter the Government should think of introducing a system to impose heavy fine to those defecting to other parties.

NCP, MSCP and Samata parties now without any MLAs look pitiable. Just on the eve of election when PA Sangma came here these MLAs when they were busy campaigning for themselves made it look like as if they were born for the party.

Likewise these MLAs of the MSCP also spoke many things appreciating its President Th. Chaoba. They have proved now that they were speaking for the sake of speaking to befool the voters. Who cares? The cheap voters can be bought at the time of elections. Therefore defection goes on and it will go on until realization dawns to the people of the state.
