Thought of the Week-------
Union Minister of State for
Commerce Jairam Ramesh has
announced that free trade would
be introduced in place of the
current border trade on 22
selected items between India and
Myanmar. No third country would
be allowed to enter the trade
however. He further announced
that the Indian Government has a
plan to construct a modern
integrated customs and land
building at an estimated cost of
Rs 70 crores at Moreh for
further development of border
trade. It should also be noted
that modern banking facilities
should be set up to help traders
get rid of high costs and delay
in reimbursement. Also, the law
and order situation should be
tightened so as to allow conduct
of free trade. This is one
aspect in the economic realm of
Manipur that could have a huge
potential for economic growth in
Manipur and North-East in
general.
