Sana
Leibak Literally " Land of Jewels"!
Liability or Asset?
By Kishorchand Nongmaithem
Sana Leibak literally "Land of Jewels”! Liability or an asset? Today this Land of Jewels has become a land of turmoil, politically and socially, mayhem. It goes without saying that the situation in Manipur is worst.
Let us start from the base. The development in Manipur seems to be retarded. See the road conditions, transportation, communication, education etc. Everything seems to be in a state of dilly-dally. It is more than half a century with India. What are the bright changes in our home state, Manipur? In this 53 years or so, we could not make up our mind on our own nationalism and culture. Hostile ideology still echo in us. Maybe its change into a killing zone has had an impact. We, the people need good education system, good transportation, good communication, good infrastructure, better telecommunication which would make us proud. If we compare this situation with other states, we could observe a sharp imbalance within. Is it the fruit of care undertaken by our government with those policy makers and breakers? Still a jargon to us.
Corruption is an integral part in every nook and corner in this so called Land of Jewels, deep rooted! And what about the social infrastructure, schools, colleges, hospitals? It is indeed no doubt to say the condition is woeful. A school with no teachers!! And class rooms are like cowshed. It says Education is the basic tool to make a society successful. Normal parents which have a meager income cannot send their children in private schools which have sky-high tuition fees. In contrast, some well-to-do parents send their children in private tuition, besides school. Here the gap between haves and have-nots are much widened. It catalyses to move our society backwards.
We often hear about patients dying in hospitals due to the lack of doctors, infrastructures. Hospitals in Manipur are ill-maintained. Hospital with no doctors! So shameful! It is not a strange topic. Some well-to-do patients go to reputed hospitals in the major cities even for a simple problem. But for normal people like us it has only two alternatives either to die or to stay alive for a little bit longer. Not only the hospitals, it can be said that the conditions in social (public) institutions are horrible. "A land of Maladies" Here, May I ask to our politicians, isn't it high time to change your tactics to make hell here?
Again, Manipur is pregnant with problems. As there is a saying "Life indeed would be dull if there were no such difficulties". KILLED, FIRING, ABDUCTED… so on! So many dreaded news. It has become an unchanged heading in newspapers and the media. Armed groups are mushrooming day by day. What can it be titled? Is it the so called terrorist or the militant which have unknown ideology. Is it the fruit sowed by the unwilling merger in 1949 to India, so-called, the largest democracy, beyond our consideration? Do we get out birth right in this greatest and largest Democracy? The answer is a big "NO"! Let us recall the Malom massacre and the recent cease fire tragedy. In those incidents, how many innocent people lost their lives? Without mentioning much, life has become priceless in this lawless state. Right to be tortured, Right to kill innocent people became the rock-bottom pit of this frameless democracy.
From the above paragraphs, it is high time to understand the how and why to ignite a mass consciousness to erase these dreadful maladies. Otherwise, this Land of Jewels will be in the dark. We may or can ask or claim our right from our government as Abraham Lincoln said "Democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people". So let's join hands to make a dream which will not be a nightmare, simply just say it as making an auspicious outset to create a new era.
Amen to that? Elaborate!
